This was perhaps one of our warmer Curl’s with temperatures above the freezing mark for much of the games. Well over 100 athletes vied for the coveted medals. Nine year old Ithacan Adele Lawless won this year’s gold medal, Paul Sopor took second while Dru Santiago took third place. This year marked the first Turnip Toss addressing the issues we ran into during the 2006 curl with including very young kids in our games. Athletes 8 and under tossed turnips at the target with throwing distance being based on age. Kids are much more comfortable with the turnip which offers a much more delicate projectile. 25 youngsters competed in our inaugural event. When the turnip scraps were cleared Tess Vanek of Pennsylvania had won our very first Turnip Toss. Ben Supron of Ithaca took the silver medal while Ellie Billo of Portland, Oregon took the bronze.
